Architect/Mixologist/Bartender Gustavo Ortega-Oyarzun grew up in Celaya, Mexico, where he learned at an early age, helping his mother cook, the importance of using the best and freshest ingredients from her garden. She would explain everything as she added it and described what element that ingredient brought to the dish. From this, he learned how to balance and enhance flavors. Gustavo's journey took a fascinating turn after college, He applied his architecture and interior design skills unexpectedly, by transitioning into the food and beverage industry. This sparked his interest in mixology, and he began encouraging bartenders to use fresh, high-quality ingredients and experiment with Mexican spices and fruits.

In 2012, he founded Art of Drink Inc., a consulting and beverage program that specializes in combining agave spirits with the bold flavors of Mexico, His background in architecture influences his approach to crafting cocktails. He thinks beyond the traditional sweet, sour, and bitter flavor profiles and instead draws inspiration from Mexican candy, incorporating a wide range of flavors like spice, smokiness, and umami.
